How to Set Your Seder Plate: A Step-by-Step Guide

How to Set Your Seder Plate: A Step-by-Step Guide

The Seder Plate (Ka’arah) is the focal point of the Pesach night. Each item on the plate carries deep symbolic meaning, reminding us of our journey from slavery to freedom. At Satmar Meats, we take pride in providing the finest quality items to ensure your Seder table is both beautiful and halachically prepared.

When it comes to the Zeroa (Bone), many families have different customs. That is why we offer both a Roasted Chicken Wing and a Roasted Chicken Neck to suit your specific Mesorah.

Here is how to set your Seder plate in 6 easy steps:

1. Zeroa (The Shankbone)

Placement: Top Right. The Item: This represents the Korban Pesach. Most use a roasted bone. Satmar Meats Tip: Choose between our perfectly prepared Wing or Neck. Both are roasted to perfection and ready for your plate, saving you time during the busy Erev Yom Tov rush.

2. Beitzah (The Egg)

Placement: Top Left. The Item: A hard-boiled (and usually roasted) egg, representing the Korban Chagigah and the cycle of life.

3. Maror (Bitter Herbs)

Placement: Center. The Item: Usually romaine lettuce or horseradish. This reminds us of the bitterness of the slavery in Egypt.

4. Charoses (The Paste)

Placement: Bottom Right (below the Zeroa). The Item: A mixture of fruits, nuts, and wine that resembles the mortar used by the Jewish slaves to build the storehouses of Egypt.

5. Karpas (The Vegetable)

Placement: Bottom Left (below the Beitzah). The Item: A vegetable (often parsley, potato, or celery) that is dipped into salt water to represent the salty tears of our ancestors.

6. Chazeres (Second Bitter Herb)

Placement: Very Bottom (below the Maror). The Item: Additional bitter herbs (usually romaine lettuce) used for the "Korech" sandwich.
